One of the achievements of his government that Prime Minister Netanyahu took pride in during a recent speech was the tall fence we're building along the 220KM border with Egypt. Only problem is that from the video below, it is pretty clear that we might want to have a clear path to the Sinai so that we can preempt the millions of Egyptians that are planning on marching to Jerusalem.
I have said for years that our defensive strategy has got to stop being based on defensive military systems.
Our enemies are on the march. We must embrace the only military doctrine that has ever really worked -- preempt them by initiating the war on their territory.
We need at least another full active duty division - preferably mechanized infantry -- in the Southern Command. Stop spending money on defense. We need tanks, APCs, MLRS battalions, the works. We can't afford to be taken by surprise.
There are two obvious lessons from what is happening in Egypt. First, the land for peace formula is crazy. We gave land for peace and now that they have decided to destroy the peace, they get to keep the land. In the clip below they say their path to invasion goes through Gaza. So here too, they show that all the people who said that Gaza had no value to Israel were wrong twice. As the daily shelling from Gaza into Israel shows, our presence in Gaza prevented attacks on southern Israel. And as their declarations make clear, our presence in Gaza blocked a convergence of Palestinian and Egyptian forces in the Sinai which -- with its 220 km border with Israel, is now the preferred launching point for attacks.
The second lesson is of course that all the enthusiasm over "Arab democracy" by Westerners, and particularly by conservatives desperate for a way to make war seem like a redemptive experience or something was irresponsible to the point of maliciousness.
We warned you over and over again that this would turn out badly. But you said we were wrong and indeed, somehow immoral to prefer Mubarak to "the people."
Now I just have a little request for all of you brilliant ones who lobbied Obama to dump Mubarak. No, I don't expect you to apologize. All I ask is that next time you hug your kids, think about the Israeli children whose lives you placed in danger with your irresponsible pontifications.

All of this unfolding national tragedy is summed up by Israel making the wrong choice.
Choice 1.'For I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you. 32 You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their gods. 33 They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against Me.' Exodus 23
Choice 2. Go along with the fraudelent peace scheme of the devious and untrustworthy nations which leads to great,great disaster.
Naive Israel,seduced by powerful,smooth talking,cunning,devious men,wolves dressed as sheep, chose door number 2 with all the glitter,false promises and flashing lights and still,the stupid people refuse to extricate themselves from the trap.
Israel made the wrong choice and it has always lead to great suffering and disaster for all those who chose to chase after lying idols and ignore God and trust in devious Israeli politicians who all made a pact with haSatan.
The sad thing is that Israel has not yet waken up and turned away from their lying idol and continue to serve their many Potomac studs and completely ignore God and His very real warning.
It's going to take major catastrophe to change the stubborn heart of the stubborn people.
Those who survive the coming destruction will finally awaken and give up on the politics of lies,betrayal and subterfuge that led Israel to calamity.

Caroline. You speak the truth and the Memri video shows beyond a shadow of a doubt the Egyptian/Arab intention to destroy Israel, but who is listening? Is it the Leftist Israeli media or the defense strategy that is being argued over by grownups acting like squabbling children. Perhaps it is the "flytilla" consisting of anti Semites and Leftist Jews that never got off the ground. It certainly wouldn't be Obama and his Jewish supporters. The same Obama who might be facing Mecca every day with the thought of Al Quds running through his head. We are in imminent danger and I shudder to think of the possible consequences for Israel and Jews everywhere because of our stupidity and blindness. May G-d bless us and watch over us.

"Arab democracy"
This was a complete propaganda story from the beginning. The ones who constructed it, of course knew that, and knew that they had to lie in order for their "friends" to gain power. With them it's always the story they tell and then there is truth, which they hide and destroy.
The truth is that there are linkages between the radical left worldwide and Israel's and America's enemies and they control the stories that the masses consume and therefore the public mind. This is the greatest tool they possess and the one that is needed to both seize power and maintain it.
And we pretend that somehow it's all about freedom of the press, that the press (media) are our friends and are looking out for us when clearly they have objectives and ideologies that endanger lives and freedom. There is little free speech for anyone who disagrees with them. Comparatively, none at all.
Some day we'll all be good little Marxists together, it's just that they don't have any room for Israel under the alliance with their new "friends" and so Israel must go. These are their objectives and they can be stopped but that requires action, which our governments are unwilling to take or even consider. You cannot have only one side presented to the people and not expect that the people will believe otherwise. Somehow though we convince ourselves that there is no intent, just coincidence and happenstance. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

I was in Israel during the 73 war. I have seen the Iron Dome in Action in the South it is useless against a large scale Rocket attack and also scuds. We should take that money and buy Abrams Tanks and Tank killer helicopter gunships. We also need more troops in the South and in the Army to counter the Egyptian Army Tanks and infantry, and a build up of the army and armored core in the North with Abrams Tanks troops and Tank killer helicopters.
Another excellent commentary Caroline! I know that motherhood is a full-time job but perhaps a run for PM isn't too much of a stretch? Just an admirer's suggestion but you seem to be on top of the situation and show leadership potential.

You are absolutely right. Israel can't afford to be taken by surprise. Land for peace has never been about peace. It has been and continues to be about dismantling Israel and eradicate all Jewish presence in the area. One big caliphate is the ultimate goal.
Israel is completely surrounded by Islamic mad dogs...itching to get at Israel and destroy her. Yet the Left still...STILL insists on giving away Ulpana and most of Yosh. ((shaking my head))

Look on the bright side. Maybe when there is house-to-house fighting in Ashkelon, Eilat and Be'er Sheva against advancing Egyptian troops, the "peace" crowd in Israel might finally see reason.
As for the "conservative friends of Israel" who sought the toppling of Mubarak, their aim was to achieve precisely what is on that video. Don't expect them to cry over it. The likes of James Baker sleep and dream the destruction of Israel, no different from the likes of Samatha Power.

I agree with you, its awful how the world looks at the Arabs as peace loving. When every day their on parade threatening Jews and Israel. Yet the world including the United States keep giving millions and billions of dollars to them. And they won't stop giving. Israel must act in their own best interest. Hopefully they will all become martyrs before they get out of Egypt. Clearly they are bent on one thing... the killing of every Jew in Israel. They will slaughter all men, women and children if they get the chance.... And I don't think Obama will lift one finger to stop them. Stop them Israel, before they even get out of Egypt.. You have every right to defend yourselves.
It has ground on and on like a Greek tragedy in which the ending is known at the beginning. Yielding Sinai was a tragic, historic blunder.
I've been telling anybody who would listen, and they weren't many, for decades. War with Egypt is assured by the 1979 treaty. Ambrose Bierce defined "peace" as " a period of cheating between wars". Quite so.
I differ slightly from Caroline - but only slightly - in my suggestions for strategy and tactics in this war.
I agree that Israel needs to build up meat-and-potatoes combat assets. Rather than to mechanized infantry, though, I would shift the emphasis to primitive air platforms. The high-tech IAF will assure air superiority quickly. The huge flights of cheap, simple, prop-driven bombers and gunships I envision would operate freely in the skies over Sinai and Egypt proper. And Gaza. And Lebanon.
A Rooseveltian-Churchillian campaign is what's called for.

The fence on the border with Egypt is supposed to block the influx of illegal African immigrants into Israel (around 10,000 a year are illegally entering). Its not constructed as an obstacle against military invasion.

thanks for another brilliant piece of journalism. Unfortunately all the main media chooses to ignore the threats from the muslim world. Instead Israel is dislayed as the aggressor. The really sad thing is that jewish individuals support the anti Israeli forces. Enforcing the anti Israel propaganda.They don't understand that Israel and Jews will have to fight for their survival.
It's even worse than Glick lets on and she knows it. Think of '73 when Egypt took us by surprise and we had the Sinai. We don't have the Sinai any more. The other difference is that Egypt is now armed to the teeth with the best US weaponry. Thanks Uncle Sam. Then there is Iran and the Palestinians in the West Bank/Judea and Samaria, as intransigent as ever. There is still the threat of Syria, its civil war not withstanding. There is Hezbollah in Lebanon, and if you think Jordan is moderate think again. Turkey doesn't even hide its support for the Jihad against the Jews.
And of course there is Obama in the White House, who frankly is worse than obtuse, he is malicious. American Jews overwhelmingly voted for this thug in the White House, one of the greatest scandals and shames in Jewish history. And no that is not an exaggeration. Europe is still Europe, apathetic at best and horribly anti-Semitic at worst.

You are right that the only way to win a war is to go on the offensive carrying the war to the enemy's territory. Israel used pre-emption to stunning effect in the Six Day War. She should use it again on the same Egyptian army and not stop until it has been totally destroyed this time.
John David Lewis's book Nothing Less Than Victory shows how victorious military commanders have achieved long-term peace by identifying the core of the enemy's ideological, political and social support for a war, fiercely striking at this objective, and demanding that the enemy acknowledges its defeat.
I think most of us knew where this - Arab Spring - was heading. Very frightening. This is something that the drive by media in the U.S. should be covering. Al Qaeda has been defeated but the larger problem of radical Islam has not.
Land for peace was alway a dubious concept. I wonder what fool thought of it? My guess is that in the case of Egypt, it was a wash. While Israel did lose strategic depth, it gain thirty years of "peace". When circumstances dictate, the IDF will make quick work of the Egyptian military and take it back. The Egyptians may have advanced weapons, but it's military is no where near the quality of the IDF and requires American assistance to maintain it's gear.
