John Bolton is also advising Romney

After having criticized Mitt Romney for having former CIA and NSA director Michael Hayden advising him, I feel it is only fair to point out that former US Ambassador to the UN John Bolton is also advising the likely Republican presidential nominee. And unlike Hayden, Bolton  is a brilliant strategic thinker, organizational leader and innovator, and friend of Israel.

In an article in Newsmax published this week, Bolton laid out the threat a nuclear armed Iran poses to the Middle East and the US and presented the argument for military strikes against Iran' nuclear facilities. He summarized Obama's policies towards Iran noting that Obama has no intention of attacking Iran's nuclear facilities and opposes an Israeli military strike against Iran's nuclear facilities more than he opposes a nuclear armed Iran.

Bolton then called for the US -- through the Congress -- to support an Israeli military strike. The most important thing the US can do in this regard is ensure that the US will resupply Israel with the military platforms it will need to defend itself against the likely Iranian decision to use its Hezbollah and Hamas proxies to attack Israel to retaliate against an IDF strike on Iran's nuclear installations.

Bolton doesn't cover any new ground in his article. But what he does do is show that Newt Gingrich was talking sense when he said that if he is elected president he will appoint Bolton to serve as his Secretary of State.

Despite Gingrich's enthusiastic endorsement, Bolton came out in support of Romney. He argued that Romney is the most conservative candidate that has the potential to defeat Obama. Since he announced his support, Bolton has reportedly been advising Romney. So after attacking Romney advisor Michael Hayden yesterday for his apparent support for Obama's Iran policy, it is only fair to salute him for having Bolton on his team.

I think it would be extremely helpful if  for Romney's supporters to pressure him to commit to appointing Bolton as his Secretary of State in the event he wins the Republican nomination and defeats Obama in November. If Romney were to do that, I would say that every right thinking person should go to bat for him. Right now a Romney vs. Obama race is a choice between an acceptable option and an unacceptable one. If he announced that Bolton will be his Secretary of State, Romney would immediately transform the content into a race between an amazing option and an unacceptable one.

Agree entirely with your piece, Caroline. I sleep at night knowing I didn't vote for O so this isn't about me--but there are plenty of disaffected liberal Democrat Jews in South Florida who are in fact jumping to vote for Romney.

May I respectfully differ on Ms. Caroline's wise counsel. By the way, congrats on the new arrival, hope the baby is well. I would be careful with this one. Romney should not be pressured to appoint Bolton as Sec. of State. I would suggest learning as much as possible about Bolton and focus on highlighting his strong points. I would also strongly condemn Hayden as a troll Israel-LastER. Let Romney figure it out himself.

Romney should definitely appoint Bolton as Secretary of State. I am going to do all I can to pressure Romney to make this important appointment. Of course it will drive the Left crazy but the Left is crazy!

Caroline, you will get no argument from me. Having John Bolton on his team almost assuredly
puts Mitt Romney in the White House after the elections in November. Now all we need is some common sense and a little extra prayer. Shabbat shalom.
PS Incidentally you look lovely.

"He argued that Romney is the most conservative candidate that has the potential to defeat Obama." - Rightly so. On his own Romney seems "Obama light," but if he surrounds himself with people like Bolton, who's both sharply analytical and realistic (these two conditions make other words like "pro-Israel" or "conservative" totally redundant), he'll become a remarkable choice.

Bolton is a good man, a friend of Israel and very importantly, not at all fooled into gullible judgment or actions. Now if Romney will just listen to him, instead of the others... I found it instructive that Dubya refused to and Bolton resigned. That tells you a lot about establishment republicans and their friends, which Romney is.

Bolton would make a fine President and although I have my disagreements with him, he is both reasoned and truthful and therefor honest. He is a principled and courageous gentleman who is under no illusions, knows precisely what to do and not do. The establishment is scared to death of him because he won't say yes when he knows the answer should be no, or conversely. Very much like President Reagan, he is his own man and knows what to do and who to trust. He would make an excellent choice for the veep too! But that's just wishful thinking. They want to use him but I don't think they will ever let him that close to power.

Money, power and camera face time trump principles and long term policies and judgment every time, in DC.

There are millions of American Christians watching, who understand exactly what is going on and are not fooled for an instant. But Obama and his Marxist friends are in power, for now thanks to the media and they don't care about anything but destroying America's power, free economy and her ally Israel among other targets. We have long memories and a very keen appreciation of Israel and they cannot hide from the truth because we won't let them, no matter how much power they think they have.

As we have Hayden and Bolton on opposite sides, it would be important to examine what Romney believes. He is a devout Mormon, not a Mormon-in-name-only like Harry Reid (MINO). Unfortunately, the Mormon Church has grown increasingly hostile to Israel, as detailed in this article:

http://saintsalive.com/resourcelibrary/mormonism/the-mormon-church-israel-and-the-arabs

The Mormons have contributed large sums to Islamic Relief Worldwide, an Hamas front group. As with the Obama administration, Romney policy would flow from the President's personal belief system. Romney, of course, is hard to pin down, but I'm skeptical.

To paraphrase Milton Friedman -- We should not obsess about getting the RIGHT person for the job. Rather we should concentrate on creating conditions in which the wrong person(s) does the RIGHT thing. I believe that this quote applies to the current situation in the Republican party. Further, I believe that a man of high ethical principles and superb knowledge of foreign affairs -- John Bolton -- IS the RIGHT person to get the new president to do the RIGHT thing regarding Middle East and other foreign policy. If we would take to heart the words of Milton Friedman, we would get this country back on track.
