Saudi Arabia's exploitation of Palestinian UN bid

The Saudis effectively ended their strategic alliance with the US in the aftermath of the US-supported overthrow of Hosni Mubarak. Since then the Saudis have strengthened their ties to China and Russia and from what I understand have refused to sign any new oil contracts with the Americans.
Now in this oped in the New York Times, the Saudis are hitching a ride on the Palestinian UN bid to justify their previous abandonment of America.
As my readers are well aware, I think that the US's abandonment of Mubarak was one of the greatest strategic errors the US has ever committed. But of course, the Saudis can't play the populist/leader of the Muslim world card by opposing the mob in Cairo. And so they never announced their breach with their US patron, which in their mind had lost all credibility as an ally when it ditched Mubarak. But the Palestinians and the war against the Jews is the great populist issue in the Muslim world. And so, aside from everything else, the PLO's UN initiative gives the authoritarian likes of the Saudis a perfect excuse for publicly acknowledging their previous abandonment of the US.
Moreover, the increasingly anti-Jewish American Left will seize on the Saudi claim as proof that the US's alliance with the Jewish state is undermining America's standing in the Arab world.
Oh dear. Things are getting uglier and uglier.

The Saudi's see the handwriting on the wall with the incompetent fool Obama and the collapsing U.S. economy.
They've jumped ship.

Unlike Israel they do not put all their eggs in 1 basket full of holes.
The no longer restrained Arab street see now is their time to make their united move against their chief enemy.

The big joke in all of this is Netanyahu thanking Obama for helping to rescue Israel's security men at their embassy in Cairo.
I don't know for the life of me why he did not thank Obama for helping to depose Mubarak and using NATO to install a hard line Islamic government in Libya as the US did in Kosovo against Christian Serbia ?

More like one of many.

I think Israel is paying dearly for their religious devotion to the US and it's phony peace scam. All the restraint demanded of Israel by her pimps of no peace in Washington and goodwill gestures to an implacable foe were shows of weakness to Muslims and have invited this lead up to war.
This is the price 'tag' Israel pays for ignoring God and His ONLY peace plan. Exodus 23:27-33

I guess Obama bowing to the king made absolutely no difference in the end. Seems like he was actually facing the wrong way. He and the anti Jewish Left have hitched their wagons to the wrong star and as you say it is indeed very ugly.

Hopefully the "Law of Unintended Consequences" will prevail.

Palestine is formed and admitted into the UN.

Then things will get interesting....
