NY subway ads calling for ending US aid to Israel?

anti-Israel NY subway ad.jpg
According to JTA (hat tip Arve in Norway) this ad is set to be posted in 18 NY subway stations in Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx and Brooklyn starting later this month. Seems to me that New Yorkers who support Israel should be able to speak to the City of New York, the Metropolitan Transit Authority and the New York Transit Authority who all have a hand in running the New York subway and have the campaign cancelled. My friend, the indefatigable Pamela Geller at Atlas Shrugs was able to get similar anti-Israel campaigns blocked in places like Seattle and has shown that cancelling anti-Israel propaganda campaigns is eminently doable.
Happy hunting!
Oh, and if you're wondering who is now launching a desperate 11th hour bid to keep the NY-9 Congressional seat loyal to Obama, read this New York Post editorial.

UPDATE: Here's an email I received from Morris Massel with information on how to cancel the ad campaign:

An anti-Israel group, www.twopeoplesonefuture.org, has just placed the attached ad calling for the end of aid to Israel in 18 subways stations in NYC.  They claim to target Israel only because "Israel is the strong party, Israel is the Occupying Power and Israel is the only party that can actually end the Occupation and pave the way for a just peace."  IT IS NOT ABOUT PEACE.  IT IS ANOTHER THINLY VEILED ATTACK ON ISRAEL.  For example, certain of the sponsors of this ad campaign actively support Israel boycotts and general Arab solidarity.  This is not about promoting peace; it is about attacking Israel.

How can you help?

1. The ad placement is handled by CBS Outdoor.  Please send an email toemmanuela.chanoine@cbsoutdoor.com to register your concern about this ad campaign.

2. Email the Mayor.  http://www.nyc.gov/portal/site/nycgov/menuitem.bd08ee7c7c1ffec87c4b36d501c789a0/index.jsp?doc_name=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nyc.gov%2Fhtml%2Fmail%2Fhtml%2Fmayor.html

3.  Call the MTA at 212-878-7000 and, in response to the prompts, press 1, 3, * and then either 2 for the press office and/or 4 for corporate affairs.  Leave a message.  You can also email them at http://mta-nyc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/mta_nyc.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php

4. GET THE WORD OUT.  Forward this email to your friends and family.  If we do not act to protect Israel, no one will.

For your ease, a draft email is below:

I have just learned of the anti-Israel ad campaign that has been launched in 18 NYC subway stations by twopeoplesonefuture.org. I am contacting you to express my strong disapproval with this ad campaign.  The campaign is supported by the anti-Israel lobby, whose agenda is not peace but the destruction of the State of Israel.  Second, it unfairly penalizes Israel for defending itself.  New York City should not allow these types of ads to be run in our Transit System.

Thanks for the heads up Caroline. Disgusting! How can we New York Jews or any Jews for that matter live with ourselves if we allow this to happen. I've shared your post and will do all I can.

I've had my doubts from the beginning concerning Weprin, but after having read the NYP article it's eminently clear that a vote for Weprin is a vote for Obama. No way, no how.

The West is in serious decline and falling fast except for a few who hold back this growing flood of darkness.
Evil is making inroads where it was never possible because America has turned her back on God and the darkness fills the void.

We have 100 Muslim terrorist wannabe's in London yesterday burning the flag and threatening the U.S. while the politically correct, cowardly British government pampers them just like Israel and the US government does.
Israel is too busy attacking fellow Jews and tearing do their homes to appease this darkness called Islam.

Excellent speech by Swiss member of Parliament Oskar Freysinger
said with passion and truth that no politician in Washington is yet ready to speak from the floor of Congress .The same goes for the Nevillesque appeasers in Jerusalem who would never speak this truth out of fear.
The enemy knows it has already won because of the fear and open door we infidels give to them and we are in deepest denial.

I'll also first respond by saying thanks for the heads up.....

I know Pamela Geller.. not as well as you do of course .....

I will distribute the infomation on my mailing list which has 2,500 subscribers in the NY Metro area....

This poster was up for several weeks during the summer in at least 2 Boston subway (MBTA) locations I regularly travelled through, both on the Red Line. One was at the Alewife major terminus station, and another was at the Park Street major changeover station. In all likelihood the same poster was up at other MBTA subway locations. The local sponsoring group was listed on the posters as (Boston) Jewish Voice for Peace.

To their great credit, the organized Russian Jewish community in the Boston area is frequently able to at least forcefully protest such propaganda, if not necessarily able to get it removed; unfortunately, they (the Boston-area Russian Jews) give voice to what seems a distressingly limited population of genuinely Zionistic Jews here who can recognize JVP and similar outfits for the cancer that they are. For the most part, when outright Zionism-related apathy isn't the dominant trait with the majority of Boston-area Jews, a craven desire not to roil general community waters and a bizarre own-jugular-exposing instinct (touted as "letting a diversity of voices be heard") kick in.

Great idea. Information to get in touch with the right people can be found at http://nofakepace.blogspot.com.

Think again, Caroline.

(1) US "aid" to Israel is toxic.

It comes with so many strings it ties up and suffocates the country.

Israel is prevented from developing its own military industries, and it's even prevented from selling weapons to markets the US disapproves of.

Recently the US prevented Israel from selling technological equipment to China.

Israel could find itself in the middle of a war and be unable (again) to get American spare parts for its weapons.

Israel needs to be self-sufficient and independent enough to buy anything it wants anywhere it's available.

(2) Quite frankly, this ad is rather mild. If we let mainstream ideas flow freely, Israel could counteract with a much stronger ad to tell the truth about any of the many outrages that occur when Muslims get hold of weapons to threaten Israel.

How about Turkey? And Egypt? Both recipient of US aid.

And maybe an independent group could post an ad showing how the US and the EU are arming and training Fatah and the Martyrs Al Aqsa Brigade, the latter included on the US State Dept Terror List.

If you let this ad be posted, then you'd have better chances to counteract it with an ad of your own.

(3) The US is a great beneficiary of military aid to Israel because it keeps their military factories active with thousands of workers on the payroll.

(4) Our greatest emphasis should be for a more dignified relationship with the US, not one where Israel acts like a vassal state.

DONE! But, I can't contact MTA cuz I don't live in NYC!

Kudos to Canadian Otter. My sympathies (and anxieties) are entirely with Israel right now, but I'm also an American, and have a deep and abiding respect for the First Amendment.

America has never been a place, and God willing will never become the sort of place, where we try to silence people because we don't like their ideas. Don't agree with the poster campaign against US support for Israel? Then launch a counter campaign!

If there's one thing history has shown us over, and over, and over again, it's that transparency, daylight, and debate are the only way we stand a chance of keeping things civilized in the long run.

So: argue with them! Persuade! But you'll repel more people than you comfort if you try to win the US war for "hearts and minds" through censorship. Censorship will always and forever be the first tool of despots. You don't need it, and frankly, you can do better than that.

In Portland, Oregon the transit company Trimet is running the same ads. I am a driver for that company and I will not drive any of those buses with horrible ad on it.These ads seem to be appearing everywhere.

we should respond with a subway ad of palestinians celebrating on 9/11
