I listened to your message by way of Caroline Glick's blog.
We have something in common, I also went to Israel (in 1977) after serving in the U.S.Air Force and volunteered on Kibbutz Erez near Gaza. I've been back five times since then and have tried to the best of my ability to get Israel to stop looking to the U.S. as their replacement God who will bring them peace.
You mentioned that Israel and America share the same values. What are these values?
The government sanctioned murdering of the unborn, the bold and brazen march of the sodomites,or the endemic corruption at all levels of government with no accountability whatsoever ?
You also mentioned that America and Israel share the same mission as a 'light unto the nations.'
I wish that were true.
We have become a curse because we have rejected the light of truth and because of our counterfeit peace agenda of carving up Israel and sacrificing it to the forces of Islam as a reward for their evil.

Sadly Israel has imitated the idol she religiously serves in every perverse and corrupt way and God is judging both America an Israel because we have turned far away from Him.

Leaving aside the amusing delivery, it's certainly a very friendly speech. The point about caution vis a vis the Arab Spring movements is also well-taken.

One wonders, however, if Rep. Bachmann really understands the role of the United States in the US-Israel relationship. The US has always been at its best with a sober hand on Israel's shoulder, restraining its ally's basest urges, and at its worst as the enabler of an unsustainable Greater Israel vision.

The annexed West Bank would forever remain an albatross around the nation's neck, dragging it down from the humanity of Judaism to something much darker and uglier, quite akin to South Africa. It would have less of a chance of being a real Jewish State, in the values sense, than if it were flooded with right-of-return refugees.

The best thing the US could do for Israel would be to help it become a normal country, within clear, legitimately recognised borders, without the burden of overlordship over another resentful nation. It saddens me that the EU can do so little toward that goal. No other mediator than a US president will be trusted on both sides, regrettably.

This is the speech that Palin should have made.

Even though the 'conventional wisdom' does not give Michelle Bachman much of a shot of winning the nomination, much less the general election - don't count her out. If the same type of groundswell that led to the Tea Party movement - consisting of Americans of all races and ethnic groups that do not wish to see a 2nd term for Obama - were to take hold and vote for her as their standard bearer - it would not be out of the realm of possibility that the current holder of the White House will be voted out of office on 11/2012.

Fire Obama...hire Bachman. She definitely is one of the strongest pro-American candidates in the mix.

Michele Bachmann is an amazing women. She is the leader of the Tea Party Caucas in the U.S. Congress. She is a consistent and fearless conservative and champion of limited constitutional government. I think she is the bravest person in the Republican Party. I believe she is a tax attorney.

She is also a women of deep faith. She and her husband cared for 23 foster children over the years.

I didn't know she lived and worked on a kibbutz when she was younger. She definitely articulated a strong declaration of support for Israel.

I highlighted this speech on Facebook myself, and as a former resident of Minnesota, I remember her rise through various offices there. She is a gutsy woman, a fighter and she is driven by her beliefs, not merely by money or ambition - but a woman who wants to be the American president (even at such a disastrous time) has to have some ambition.

But the reason I'm writing here is to give you all a cautionary note. Bachmann's campaign manager Ed Rollins, is not exactly the fellow I'd want as a person privy to what we are up to in Israel.

I do hope that Congresswoman Bachmann finds a different individual to represent her campaign. His tactics are already causing her problems.

Why is it that nobody who claims Israel as a "critical" ally in the Middle East takes any trouble to explain how Israel serves this role? Turkey, for example, is supposed to be an operational ally in the Middle East as a member of NATO. We have a military alliance with Turkey that is far more trusting and dependent than any we have with Israel. How is Israel supposed to function as a strategic ally in the Middle East when all of its military capacity and functionality is entirely caught up in simple self preservation? How critical can it be when it is the target of aggression from Turkey, an operational strategic ally of the US in NATO?

It is also unfair to both the US and Israel to pose Israel as the same model of US values that make up US society and government. Israel is a Jewish state, it was a Jewish nation in antiquity and was reborn as Jewish state. The US is not a Jewish state, our government is strictly secular and legally, there is separation of church and state. Israel has no such barriers and no one should expect a Jewish state to erect any. Israel is a democracy that respects the rights and freedoms of all religions to practice their beliefs, but this is not inconsistent with Jewish beliefs and values. That we share such values should be a source of friendship between out two countries, but it is simply untrue that these two countries share the same political, social or government models.

Michele Bachmann expresses laudable sentiments about our relationship with Israel and respectable outrage over the treatment Israel is receiving from our current president. But in order to distinguish herself from the rest who claim to support Israel and its relationship with the US, she should explain in far greater depth what Israel means to the US as a strategic partner and exactly how Israel is being obstructed in defending itself. Because, all too often, it is the former that is contributing to the latter.

What is amazing is that this is amazing. There are untold millions of USA citizens who think and feel the exact same thoughts and feelings about Israel, yet we cannot get one single politician to speak them. Those who insist on waiting for Hashem's salvation alone reminds me of the joke about the guy who was stranded in a flood and kept refusing people's attempts to rescue him saying that G-d would save him. He died, of course, and while in Heaven, asked G-d why He hadn't saved him. G-d replied, "Who was it that sent you those people to rescue you??" The point is that Hashem has His messengers. No matter what their motives may be, the outcome is that salvation occurs. Think, for example, of Achasverosh - he was a key player in the Purim story, yet it is highly doubtful, given his character and background, that his motives for saving the Jews from destruction were truly altruistic. So, it seems to me that the best way to deal with the situation is to accept any help we can get (keeping our eyes open and our wits about us, of course), yet always pray to Hashem that we are making the right decisions and to do our best to be better people and to increase our merit.

Michelle Bachmann distorts President Obama's views. Time is not on Israel's side as the UN General Assembly is likely to declare a Palestinian State in September. Obama is trying to prevent that outcome. And does anyone think that Israel has defensible borders today?

While it will be very difficult to obtain, a comprehensive, sustainable resolution of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict is essential . Lacking such an agreement, I fear that Israel will: (1) face a major Intifada and/or a very damaging war, as her enemies now have more sophisticated and deadly missile; (2) not be able to effectively respond to her many economic, environmental, and other domestic challenges; (3) not be able to remain both a Jewish and a democratic state.

Hamas is certainly a problem, but its leaders have stated several times that they would abide with a negotiated agreement if it were ratified in a referendum by the Palestinian people.

Bachmann talks about Jewish values, but she supports tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans and highly profitable corporations and cuts in essential services that we all depend on. Also, she is in complete denial, as are almost every Republican politician, on climate change.

Bachman's economic policies would be very harmful and that would also have negative effects for israel.

I would suggest to Bachmann supporters that you watch a documentary called 'For the Bible Tells Me So'. It is streaming on Netflix. It is an insightful and emotional story that I believe all Christians should see.
