I just want to correct my initial blog post on this subject. I wrote that no major Jewish organizations had come out in support of Wiesenfeld and that was incorrect. Both the ZOA and CAMERA have made strong statements in support of Wiesenfeld and against the conferral of the honorary degree to Wiesenfeld.
On the other hand, the Conference of Presidents has refused to make any statements. Abe Foxman of the ADL has attacked Wiesenfeld as has Ed Koch.

Caroline, I will stand by what I originally wrote. Until we can finally say "never again" and mean just that, we are at the mercy of others. To trust others without any reservations is pure folly.
Abe Foxman is a giant blowhard..an over-weighted individual with an enlarged view of himself. If I knew then what I know now about his views, I'd never have obliged him with a Havdaloh service. Tony Kushner is a vile liar. He's so steeped in the Leftist religion that he wouldn't know the truth if it bit him. To suggest that Israel was born through "ethnic cleansing" and hence like the Nazis is so repugnant to me that words can't express the dislike I feel toward this lightweight/so-called playwright insect. He embodies all that is shallow and empty among many American Jews, who are Jewish only by birth and more socialist/Leftist by choice. Wiesenfeld was right to act as he did-it was the honest and moral thing to do. But in today's world, in particular the current infected academic climate of the US universities, truth is not important-only agreeing with the Left is.
I think that the statement...
Both the ZOA and CAMERA have made strong statements in support of Wiesenfeld and against the conferral of the honorary degree to Wiesenfeld.
Should have read...
Both the ZOA and CAMERA have made strong statements in support of Wiesenfeld and against the conferral of the honorary degree to Kushner.
I am correcting the type: It should read:
...against the conferral of the honorary degree to Kushner."

Caroline, the honorary degree was for Tony Kushner, not Wiesenfeld.
Darn, I don't frequent this website enough.
Tony grew up in the same city where I did, Lake Charles, LA. I'd say that Tony is a narcissist to the max. He sure came off that way the few times that I met him.
His uncle (Maurice) and father (William) moved down to Louisiana from NYC. His uncle was a very successful businessman (lumber yard, real estate developer, and a jewelry store) and highly regarded in the community. His dad worked for the uncle and was the conductor of a local the all volunteer Lake Charles Civic Symphony. His mother was a harpist in the symphony. His family was in complete support of Israel, as all of the small Jewish community was there.
The few times I met Tony, he was extremely standoffish. He always carried himself to be intellectually superior to everyone else. He was only interested in those who praised every word out of his mouth. He attended a local public high school and did not graduate near the top of his class. It had been a very good school at one time, but was waning as a producer of those with high intellect during his time there.
His brother Eric was the exact opposite of Tony. He actually had summer & part time jobs during high school, and got along just fine with those of his age group. He was not afraid of any sort of work. Eric has been in Vienna for a few decades now as a member of a symphony (1st Chair French Horn).
